DeArcy Vaughan made a decision with complete intentionality. One year ago this month, she ventured on a journey of weight loss and transformation. She was determined to “make herself” over. To be better. To “Be Balanced.” Within 12 months, she managed to lose 70 pounds. We all know, losing weight is never easy. Especially as we age. DeArcy is a 38 year old pharmacist by trade, a busy working mother of 2 younger children, and she is getting ready to launch her own “Be Balanced” center in October, to help other women obtain their own heath goals. What I love about DeArcy, is how laid back she is. And her genuine kind hearted smile. She is new to St. Johns County, but not new to connecting, so it was no surprise that she and Mallory (our hair hottie) really hit it off. Mallory enjoyed DeArcy, as she appreciated how “open” she was. There seems to be a budding relationship between these two now. Our Makover Model loved how talented and fun Mallory was. She said she has never had a hair stylist give so many practical tips and good instructions for how to manage her hair at home! A mini “AFTER” interview:
SJM: What is your favorite thing about living in St. Johns county? DeArcy: Is it cliche to say the schools? (Chuckles) And….how close I live to the outlet malls!!! SJM: What was your favorite part of the makeover experience? DeArcy: I loved how Mallory admitted to “FB stalking” me to get an idea of my lifestyle…We had a great consultation, and a color/cut that suits me. Also. my husband was floored by my transformation. He keeps complimenting me, and has admitted to feeling like he is “cheating on me.” This hasn’t happened before… SJM: What was your biggest takeaway? DeArcy: I learned that Fake Eye Lashes are the BOMB! I believe I will be addicted now… SJM: What was the biggest change out of your comfort zone? DeArcy: The clothes! I would have never picked out those skinny jeans and top, which were VERY comfortable. by Nikki-Lyn Holm A few months ago, I had a vision for setting up a makeover or two for an upcoming issue, and I explained my plan in the last publication. Funny though, the more I thought about it, collaborating with other talents to impact the lives of many women began weighing on my heart, and evolved into a monthly mission. I mean, when you think about it, how and who would I choose? So many women to bless, who are all in different seasons of life. As we sail through September, my current growing "In Style" team of talents will be working to offer tips, complimentary gifts, coupons, and talent services to "remodel" or restyle our monthly winners from the inside out. From the Inside? You may be wondering....How? Well, I believe when you come from a place of good intention, and shower kindness and generosity to others, they can't help but be touched and affected. As of right now we have the next 3 months of makeover models already selected. First Makeover! DeArcy (Before)Our first makeover is a mother of two, DeArcy Vaughn. She just moved from North Duval to St. John's, works full-time, she recently lost quite a bit of weight and she is starting a new business. She wants a fresh sense of style to compliment her busy lifestyle. Here is her why: Hi Nikki, I've recently lost 65 pounds and I'm feeling amazing inside my body but when I look at myself in the mirror I still feel like I haven't got it all pulled together yet. I'm starting a business where I will empower other women to become their best selves so I feel like now is the best time to take some chances so that I can project the best version of myself. Nikki, you always look great and I would love for you to teach me your ways! Please pick me!" How can you (or a friend) be considered for a future makeover?
We will be looking for different women, of all ages, sizes, and with different why's. Who do you know that desires more confidence to "sparkle in style?" I would like to thank the following vendors who have decided to join my team: Mallory Wingert with In Vision Hair Design Pink Nickel Vanessa Kromer With LimeLight Makeup (Me) Your In Style Accessory Stylist with Premier Designs www.instyle.mypremierdesigns.com by Nikki-lyn Holm As we approach the sizzlin' Summer months, we tend to wear less fabric, put less on our calendars, and even a little less makeup on our faces.
While less is truly more, we should never lose the essence of our one accessory that goes with you wherever you go: your heart! With that being shared, I think it's important to model some classic Do's of a few Summer Soul Trends that should never fade or go out of style regardless of when a season ends or begins. 5 Summer Soul Trends To “Do” This Summer: 1 . SPF DO Apply this liberally to the skin. Sun Protection Formula...and for the soul? Smile. Pause. Family. Smile more. Smile at others. Pause. Relax. Pray. Physical exercise. Do a little less...It's summer! Enjoy the sun...vacation time. Enjoy your friends and family. Treasure your family!! Those 3 bold letters have multiple meanings. 2 . DO wear bring these important poolside/beach accessories when you are gearing up for the pool, beach, or your Summer vacation. Don't forget to pack extras of these timeless necessities... • A coverup of courage • A hat of happiness • A necklace of niceness • And all look best when you • add extra layers of love Ladies, this style is classic and kindness is always in fashion! 3. DO wear a stellar pair of empathy glasses when you don't understand someone or their choices. Keep an extra set with you at all times, right next to your go to designer sunglasses. Don't forget to block out the negativity and judgments too. 4. DO be mindful of how long you stay so you don’t wear out your welcome, because in the Summer we tend to visit more with family and friends. An ideal guest stays for about 3 days. Anything more, as my Grandfather used to say, the company starts to smell like fish. Keep it fresh and joyful. Short and sweet visits are the best! 5. DO Pack an extra deodorant in your purse...and don't forget the umbrellas or keep an extra "hair saver" in your purse or vehicle. When it rains it pours. Be prepared! We can go from sun to "no fun" in 2.2 seconds around here. Regardless of your beliefs ladies, I think we can all agree that the Proverbs 31 Woman is one who models a fashion statement to be respected and admired: ”She is clothed with strength and dignity; she can laugh at the days to come. She speaks with wisdom, and faithful instruction is on her tongue. I'm a fashion-obsessed blogger, excited to share local highlights, tips, and trends about a few of my favorite things: Beauty, Bangles, and Babes. My mission as your Mom Blogger and Accessory Stylist, is to help enlighten and enhance your own unique fashion style! Beauty
This covers so many things: Fashion. Kindness. Makeup. Children. Beauty is a genuine, kind-hearted soul. A positive force. A living and breathing example of “love” in action. We all have room to “model” more of what beauty looks like in our lives… Bangles Bracelets represent my accessory-loving side. Women are like fashion cupcakes. Layer yourself with a hat, necklace, or bracelet, and we display a bit of “frosting” to showcase our personalities! Babes I keep myself busy with four younger children ages: 5, 7, 9, and 9. My girls were born to be fashionistas, while my son lives to wear play clothes. We empower them to find their own "style" while guiding them away from fashion No-No’s; the struggle of the “balance and beauty juggle” is real! Enough about me…now onto YOU! Here are my top five categories, of head to toe trends you can expect to see this Spring: Makeup: Your face is a canvas. Try the BOLD color of red lipstick. Or, enhance your eyes and grab a nude colored lipstick. It’s all about balance. Lashes and defined brows are VERY in whether you apply DIY, or get enhanced at your local salon. Wardrobe Statements : Banker stripes, thick stripes, and head to toe florals (Careful….too many flowers could make you look like your Grandma’s walking garden). The IN colors for Spring are well over 50 shades of blue and yellow. Neutrals and khakis are always hot to trend as well! 80’s Influence: We are seeing the ‘Flash Dance” shoulders, peek-a-boo dresses, and bathrobes. Ummm, yeah, you read that right. We aren’t in the big cities. Want a bathrobe? Great. Save it for the bathroom. Or a trip to the jacuzzi or even the beach. Shoes: Flatforms! A platform shoe with no arch. Stilettos are back, but I’ve never been a fan. Too constricting. Sneakers are IN. If you exercise, than they never really “went out” but hey! Also, bows, feathers, ruffles, ribbons and all kinds of shininess have hit the shoe scene as well. Accessories: Chokers. Charms. Textures. Mixed Metals. Although the main headliner this spring is rose gold. Silver and Turquoise, and creams and golds are making quite the pairings together too. Layering your jewelry gives a very polished, and elongating look. Women should strive to wear a minimum of 6, and a maximum of 12 accessories. This rule includes: Watch, ring, bracelets, necklace, earrings, belts, scarves, eyeglasse/sunglasses, and polished nails. New to the fashion scene? Want to reinvent yourself? Try one of these tips above and let me know how it goes. I’m happy to guide you while you find your inner fashion-zen-se.
