Summer Music in St. Johns

There’s something about summer in St. Augustine that practically begs you to stay out later. Maybe it’s the warm night air, the sound of music drifting through downtown, or the way the oak trees light up after sunset. Whatever it is, June is one of the best months of the year to slow down, gather with friends, and enjoy live music under the stars.

One of the season’s most beloved traditions returns with the Free Concerts in the Plaza series, happening Thursday evenings throughout June in the Plaza de la Constitución. Bring lawn chairs, grab takeout from a nearby restaurant, and settle in from 6–8 p.m. for live performances ranging from Southern country and Americana to classic rock and reggae. This year’s lineup includes the US Navy Band Southeast Brass Quintet on June 4, Palmetto Pickers on June 11, Big Papa Fish on June 18, and the JC Hatfield Trio on June 25. Learn more at www.citystaug.com/concerts.

For a more lively downtown atmosphere, Colonial Oak Music Park continues to be one of St. Augustine’s favorite gathering spots all summer long. Tucked beneath the oak canopy on St. George Street, the venue hosts live music throughout the week with plenty of outdoor seating, string lights, cocktails, and unmistakable Old Florida energy.
Country-rock band Whalin takes the stage June 18, while Los Swamp Monsters bring their Cajun-fried blend of rock, funk, and R&B on June 25. More information can be found at www.thecolonialoakmusicpark.com.

Country music fans won’t want to miss Vince Gill at The St. Augustine AMP on June 27. Known for his incredible vocals and storytelling, the legendary performer will headline one of the summer’s biggest concerts at The Amp. Over in Ponte Vedra Beach, Grammy-winning bluegrass artist Molly Tuttle performs June 5 at Ponte Vedra Concert Hall, bringing her signature musicianship and modern Appalachian sound to the stage. Visit www.theamp.com and www.pvconcerthall.com for tickets and show details.

And for something truly special, the St. Augustine Music Festival returns June 19–21 inside the breathtaking Cathedral Basilica. The free concert series has become a treasured local tradition, filling one of the city’s most beautiful spaces with world-class classical music performances.
