How to Experience Italy (& Avoid the Crowds) During this Year-Long Event

What is the Jubilee?
The year 2025 marks a special occasion in Italy as the country celebrates the Anno Santo, or Jubilee, a significant religious event that draws millions of pilgrims to Rome. While the Jubilee is a remarkable time to visit Italy, it also means larger crowds, especially at religious and historic sites like the Vatican and St. Peter’s Basilica.

Can Travelers Still Enjoy Italy?
The good news is that with strategic planning, you can still enjoy Italy’s wonders while avoiding the masses. As a luxury travel advisor, I’ve already helped several clients secure seamless Italian journeys for 2025, ensuring their experience is just as enjoyable despite the heightened activity.

For those visiting Rome, the heart of the Jubilee celebrations, timing is everything. I recommend traveling during the shoulder seasons—late spring or early fall—when the weather is still perfect, but the crowds are more manageable. I've curated personalized itineraries featuring private tours and exclusive experiences to help my clients skip the lines at major attractions. A privately guided early morning tour of the Vatican, for instance, ensures you see its beauty without the crush of crowds.

For my clients seeking an organized tour, options like the Globus "Italy’s Great Cities" package or a Kensington Tours private itinerary are ideal. These tours combine stress-free planning with VIP access to iconic landmarks, ensuring an enriching experience without the hassle of navigating peak season crowds.

I offer white-glove service for clients who want a fully bespoke experience, tailoring every detail like this 12-day custom itinerary with luxurious stays, private tours, and breathtaking experiences.

Alternative Destinations
If you’re concerned about the larger Jubilee crowds, consider alternative destinations within Italy such as Puglia or Umbria or even the island of Sardinia. These regions offer breathtaking scenery, amazing cuisine, and cultural richness with fewer tourists.

For travelers wanting to avoid the Jubilee entirely but still explore Europe, destinations like Greece, Portugal, or the French Riviera offer equally captivating experiences without the crowds. Early bookings are essential, so now is the time to secure accommodations and private tours.

With thoughtful planning and the guidance of a trusted travel expert, Italy in 2025 can still be a once-in-a-lifetime adventure, even during the busy Jubilee year. I look forward to connecting with you to plan your next trip.

The Perfect Itinerary

Here’s an example of a 12-Day Romantic Anniversary Trip in Naples, Amalfi Coast, Tuscany & Venice that I recently booked for a couple traveling June/July 2025:

Day One: Arrive in Naples, enjoy a private transfer to the Grand Hotel Santa Lucia, followed by a private gourmet pizza experience in the evening.

Day Two: Free day to explore Naples on your own.

Day Three: Private transfer to Positano, staying at Hotel Eden Roc, with a romantic sunset tour by Fiat 500 to end the day.

Day Four: Embark on a private boat tour around the enchanting island of Capri.

Day Five: Explore the Amalfi Coast with a private driver for the day, including a private garden cooking class and lunch.

Day Six: Private transfer to the train station and to hotel, train to Florence, staying at Palazzo Castri Boutique Hotel, and a free evening to explore the city.

Day Seven: Enjoy a Ferrari driving experience followed by a vineyard visit and wine tasting.

Day Eight: Private Chianti region tour and a romantic picnic in the countryside.

Day Nine: Full-day private tour of Siena and San Gimignano, with a romantic dinner in a vineyard to end the day.

Day Ten: Private transfer to Venice via train, staying at Aqua Palace Hotel. Experience a private gondola tour and an aperitif in an exclusive location.

Day Eleven: Private Venice tour exploring hidden gems off the beaten path.

Day Twelve: Private transfer to Venice airport for departure.
