MEET THE NEIGHBORS AT SHEARWATER!

St. Johns Newest Community

In just over a year, Shearwater has become one of the fastest growing communities in St. Johns County. The focus of the neighborhood was clear from the start: to promote healthy living, community engagement and a connection to the outdoors. Residents are already appreciating all the community has to offer.
“It’s like a dream come true,” said John Colbert, who chose Shearwater along with his wife and four children. He jokes about how difficult Shearwater makes it to become empty nesters, even with children attending local colleges. “They come right home,” he said, “nobody wants to leave here, right?”
The wide-ranging amenities are a big part of what makes Shearwater so attractive. Add to that pristine natural scenery, an active social calendar and healthy-lifestyle activities, and it’s easy to see what attracts residents. A full-time Lifestyle Director also plans year-round activities for residents.
The focal point of the community is the Kayak Club, which includes a clubhouse, swimming pools, tennis courts and a fitness lodge with cardio and strength-training equipment, a group workout area, fitness classes, and more. For exercise or just relaxing strolls, there are also miles of nature trails throughout the community.
“I love the fitness center,” said retiree Dean Paul. “I’m there probably five days a week. My goal is to become fit and get outside my comfort zone.”
“We wanted to have resort-style living every day,” Mr. Colbert added. “So, when Shearwater came up, it was a no-brainer. It has the lazy river, it has the pools, and most of all it had the big gym.”
Shearwater seeks to foster a true sense of community and neighborliness. “I think the people who move here generally have the same focus,” said Eleta McMeekin, mother of two small children. “They want to live somewhere, nice, clean, safe and family-oriented.”
Ms. McMeekin also appreciates the outstanding local schools. “The proximity to the schools was important to us, specifically the elementary schools within walking distance,” she said. “It’s safe because almost as soon as they leave the school, they’re within the community. And here, pretty much any school is an ‘A’ school.”
Shearwater offers home styles that appeal to a variety of tastes. While the McMeekins and Colberts found homes with plenty of room for their families, Mr. Paul settled into a smaller detached home. “I was looking for a condo or a townhome, but the house I got is better because I have the privacy and the peace and quiet that I wouldn’t get in a condo or a townhome.”
Even though Shearwater is relatively new to the CR 210 area, it is winning over many residents. And as it grows, it will remain true to its vision of fostering a healthy, friendly and active lifestyle amid a wealth of natural beauty.

Wife and mother to two young kids ages two and four In my spare time: You can find me on the outdoor trails with my family or at the fitness center. There is actually a playroom for kids inside the gym, so it’s very convenient.
Most Looking Forward to: All of the retail and shopping options coming right down the street from us!
